Natural menopause happens gradually in every woman’s life. Menopause is confirmation to the end of a woman's menstrual cycles and fertility. Natural menopause happens gradually in every woman’s life. Menopause is confirmation to the end of a woman's menstrual cycles and fertility. The Menopause Blood Test is a comprehensive panel of tests that investigates whether you have started menopause. Menopause is a biological process wherein a woman’s body produces less estrogen and progesterone and the ovaries stop producing eggs. The test measures the hormones estradiol (E2), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH), all of which exert its effects on the ovaries. It also measures thyroid hormone levels which also play a role in the regulation of menstrual cycles. During menopause, the thyroid becomes less able to produce the same amount of T4 and T3. Therefore, the testing of the same along with thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is required to investigate whether it’s menopause or thyroid disease.
Please do not exercise prior to testing. It is best that your blood is taken in a rested state.
Note: Turn around times on results are an estimate and are not guaranteed. The lab may need additional time due to holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, etc. You can contact us to discuss when your results should be ready and we will contact the lab on your behalf immediately.
TSH is created by the pituitary gland, and that can be located at the base of the brain. The gland is used to regulate thyroid hormones. You can find the thyroid at the front of the neck and is butterfly shaped. The thyroid produces three main hormones - triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4) and calcitonin. Metabolism and growth are just some of the functions controlled by the thyroid. The thyroid gland and pituitary gland work together to make sure the right about of thyroid hormones are produced. When this system is disrupted it can play havoc on the body. A TSH can show how well the thyroid is working.
Most of the T4 in your body is bonded to protein, and a smaller portion (free) has not. This is why there is a free T4 test and a total T4 test. A free T4 test is usually preferred because from this test you can see how much is available for the body to use. This test can be ordered if a TSH has come back abnormal. Pregnancy can also affect your T4 levels.
Luteinizing hormone (LH), known as gonadotropin, is a vital hormone, that affects the sex organs in both men and women. LH is responsible for many reproductive health issues and plays a role in puberty, menstruation, and fertility. Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) on the other hand works closely with LH to control sexual functions. It is related to reproduction and the development of eggs in women and sperm in men.
The FSH and LH test is a blood test that measures follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), two sex hormones that are essential for reproduction. These two hormones are secreted by the anterior pituitary gland and affect the ovaries and testes. The test is used to evaluate infertility issues in both sexes initially. It also helps determine the health of a person's reproductive organs, specifically the testicles and ovaries. This test also evaluates the pituitary function in the body.
Hormones are essential to your health and well-being. A small imbalance in your hormone levels can have a significant impact on your health, distressing your mood and energy levels, as well as fertility. Estradiol (oestradiol) is mainly a female steroid hormone, produced in the ovaries of women and less in the testes of men. The Estradiol Blood Test measures the amount of estradiol in the body. This test determines whether this hormone is within normal levels since its imbalance can affect a person’s reproductive health. This test assesses ovarian function including follicle development for in vitro fertilization. It is also used for monitoring low dose female hormone replacement therapy in postmenopausal women and for monitoring anti-estrogen therapy. In some cases, an abnormal level of this hormone can cause urinary tract infection, weak bones, and depression.
