The Allergy Panel 19, Seafood Group measures the IgE antibody levels in the blood to detect an allergy to various common seafood. It is estimated that about 1-3% of Americans are affected by the Seafood allergies. This test identifies allergic reactions caused by codfish, crab, lobster, salmon, shrimp and tuna. Allergies can cause a reaction in people who have taken seafood, handled seafood, or might be around cooking seafood. Usually, the allergic reaction symptoms occur within two hours of ingestion; however, they frequently begin within minutes. In a few cases, the response can be delayed by four to six hours or even longer in some rare cases. Common symptoms of seafood allergy include
·         Tingling or prickling (pins and needles) feeling near or around your mouth
·         Swelling
·         Abdominal pain or cramps,
·         Nausea or vomiting
·         Diarrhea
·         Itching or hives
·         Congestion
·         Shortness of breath, and
·         Difficulty swallowing,
·         Lightheadedness
·         in severe cases anaphylaxis which can be life-threatening.
