Alpha1-Acid Glycoprotein (commonly known as Orosomucoid or AAG or AGP) is an acute-phase protein that is produced by the liver and peripheral tissues in response to the systemic reaction to inflammation. As an acute-phase protein, levels of AGP are elevated during infections as well as acute and chronic inflammatory processes (for e.g., Crohn's disease- a type of inflammatory bowel disease) (1).  In such cases along with measuring α1-acid glycoprotein levels, other parameters like CRP are also utilized to assess the chronic phase inflammations.  Increased concentrations of α1-acid glycoprotein may also be found in patients...

In addition to that, AAG is a vital drug binding plasma protein, so changes in AAG causes significant changes in the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of many pharmaceuticals/drugs like propranolol, imipramine, quinidine.
