The doctor may recommend this test if someone has symptoms of liver disorder like nausea and vomiting, Weight loss, Tiredness, Jaundice, swelling and /or pain in your abdomen, a latent exposure to infections like hepatitis, etc. An AST test is often performed along with an alanine aminotransferase (ALT) test, both are enzymes found in the liver, and used as biomarkers for detecting liver damage/liver disorder.
