A small imbalance in your hormone levels can have a significant impact on your health, distressing your mood and energy levels, as well as fertility. Estradiol (oestradiol) is mainly a female steroid hormone, produced in the ovaries of women and less in the testes of men. The Estradiol Blood Test measures the amount of estradiol in the body. This test determines whether this hormone is within normal levels since its imbalance can affect a person’s reproductive health. This test assesses ovarian function including follicle development for in vitro fertilization. It is also used for monitoring low dose female hormone replacement therapy in postmenopausal women and for monitoring anti-estrogen therapy. In some cases, an abnormal level of this hormone can cause urinary tract infection, weak bones, and depression.
